What's Included In Each Session? Every tutoring sessions begins long before I ever meet with your child. Because I am an experienced elementary educator and because I don't just pull a packet of worksheets from a one-size-fits all worksheet bank, I spend anywhere from 1-2.5 hours planning just for your child. Many of the materials I use are researched in advance or created by me for your child specifically. Of course, the better I know your child, the more efficient my planning time becomes. I also have 25 years of experience working with children from first grade through middle school in a public school setting. I bring a thorough knowledge of what skills students should know at each grade level in order to be successful and I can help parents navigate the academic challenges from kindergarten to graduation. I am a private tutor for your child, but I am also a personal academic consultant for you as a parent as well. As such, I can help you know how to navigate the school system and the curriculum, explain learning targets, provide advice as to learning options and opportunities and help with suggestions for organizing and creating an effective study environment if that is what you feel you need.
Each session consists of 55 minutes of tutoring time which usually consists of a review/warm-up, a teaching/practice portion, and a game or activity to practice the skill. 5-10 minutes is provided as a time to review with parents the lessons and to discuss progress.
Free Consultation: I always like to have a phone or face to face conversation with parents to discuss learning goals and student needs. If needed, I am willing to meet with you and your child at this time in a neutral location such as a local city library. I am willing to meet in the child's home but only after we have met in a neutral location once or twice first. My consultations run 20-30 minutes. During this time I will want to hear what your concerns are, what the learning goals are, and I will be willing to answer any questions you have of me.
Location: I prefer to conduct sessions at a neutral location such as one of the libraries but am also comfortable with coming to your home after we have developed a relationship. In all cases I prefer that the parent be available and accessible to participate in the discussions when necessary. I will want to touch base with you for a few moments before the session begins and as the session concludes to share information and progress updates.
Rates: I have several options for scheduling and rates:
Standard Tutoring Plan/School Year Plan: My general tutoring fee for a 1x/week individualized reading or math plan is $50/session/child. Each session is one hour in length. This includes pre-planning for each session and written updates and progress reports provided for you in a shared Google folder. I individualize the program completely based on the learning targets the parent chooses and as determined by any diagnostic assessments given. I also can, at your request, communicate with your child's teacher and provide outside support for the classroom. My position as an experienced and currently employed Oregon educator helps me navigate the system for you. I also provide tips, resources, and support for parents.
Twice Weekly Plan: For those students needing more frequent support I offer twice weekly options at $45/session/child during the summer. During the school year, all sessions are $50/hour regardless of session plan. Sessions are 55 minutes of instruction with 5 minutes at the end for conferencing with parents.
3X Weekly plan: $40/session/child. Sessions are one hour in length.
Other Options: Schedules and needs can vary from family to family. I recognize this and because of this I am willing to work with families who need more flexibility or more frequent contact or more specialized instruction. I can't possibly predict all the potential possibilities when determining rates and plans, so contact me and let's work out something that works for you.
Sibling Discounts: I provide $5 off per session for siblings if the sessions are purchased in one month blocks and paid in advance. There is no discount applied if paying weekly. This only applies if siblings have separate plans and are not combining sessions to create one of the previously mentioned plans.
Semi-private tutoring: Does your child have friends who could join in? Are you a homeschooler who has a few others that could join you? I work out rates based on numbers of students and the amount of planning involved. This works out to be a great way to get quality instruction for a much reduced rate, and it can be so much more fun for the children. Contact me to work out a plan that works for your group.
Weekend Pricing:Weekend pricing is $50/session regardless of the plan. Sessions are 1 hour in length.
Payment: Payment is monthly on the first day of each month. In special circumstances, I will consider a weekly payment if payment is sent via digital means and the transaction is completed before the tutoring session begins. This must be prearranged. I can accept a pay as you go payment plan, but this does not reserveIt is always better to pre-pay, in order to reserve your child's spot week to week which enables me to more effectively plan for your child. Payment forms accepted: I accept the following forms of payment: I prefer Google Pay or Zelle, Apple Pay. I accept Venmo, Paypal, CashApp with an additional $2 fee. I accept cash payment.
